Parakaleo Statement of Faith
TRINITY
God is one (Mark 12:29), and He exists forever as three Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19). Together, they form a perfect community. Each Person is fully God, equal in power and glory, and together they share the same divine nature. God is perfectly holy, always in control, never changing, and full of wisdom, love, and strength. He alone is worthy of our love, honor, worship, and trust.
GOD THE FATHER
God the Father is not begotten or proceeding from any other, but the Son is eternally begotten of the Father, and the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son. He concerns himself mercifully in people’s lives, hears and answers prayer, and saves all who come to him through Jesus Christ from sin and death. (Psalm 90:2, Luke 11:1-4, James 1:17)
JESUS CHRIST
Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human, perfectly united in one Person. As God, He shares in the eternal nature, power, and holiness of the Father; as a man, He entered into our world, experiencing our weakness, sorrow, and suffering—yet without sin. He is the only Mediator between God and humanity (John 14:6; Acts 4:12), sent to restore our broken relationship with God. Through His sinless life, sacrificial death on the cross, and victorious resurrection, Jesus made the way for us to be forgiven, reconciled to God, and welcomed into His family. In Him, we find both truth and grace, justice and mercy, and the only hope of salvation.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is God, the third Person of the Trinity. He is fully divine, alive, and actively at work in the world today. The Spirit dwells within every follower of Christ, guiding, comforting, convicting, and helping them grow in faith and obedience. Working alongside the Word of God, He leads believers into truth, produces spiritual fruit (Galatians 5:22–23), and equips them with gifts for building up the church. He is the power by which we are made new in Christ and the strength that enables us to live out our calling with boldness, love, and faithfulness (John 16:7–14; Ephesians 6:17).
TRANSFORMATION
Good works don’t make us right with God—we’re saved by grace through faith, not by anything we do (Ephesians 2:8–9). But when we truly trust in Jesus, our lives begin to change. Real faith leads to real fruit (James 2:17). As we grow in our knowledge and love for God, the Holy Spirit works in us so we desire to follow God and join him in His restorative work in the world. In the process, we become more fully alive. His ways aren’t meant to limit us, but to set us free and lead us into the wholeness we were made for.
THE CHURCH
The Church is the covenant family of God, made up of all who are united to Christ by faith. God calls believers—and their children—to actively participate in a local church where His Word is preached, the sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s Supper are rightly administered, and believers grow together in worship, service, and mission. Through the gathered church, God forms His people and sends them out as a life-giving, light-bearing presence in their communities and in the world (Hebrews 10:24–25). (Acts 2:42–47; Hebrews 10:24–25).
PEOPLE
People are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and were made to magnify God’s image by cultivating the world God created. As image bearers, all people are to be treated with dignity, honor, love, and respect (James 3:9-10). However, in their pursuit of independence and self-centeredness, all people begin life alienated from God, spiritually dead, without hope, and under the weight of God’s righteous judgment. Only through God’s grace and salvation can this be restored (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:1). True life is found when our relationship with God has been restored.
RESTORATION
Restoration between God and people occurs through repentance when the Holy Spirit grants a new heart, leading individuals to turn from sin and place their trust in Jesus Christ for salvation (John 1:12-13). In His love for creation, God will not only restore humanity but also renew the entire universe, bringing it back to a state of beauty, rest, joy, perfection, and freedom (Romans 8:18-30). The world, which began as a garden of promise (Genesis 1:27-31), will ultimately find fulfillment in a perfected, life-giving garden city where there will be no more death, mourning, crying, or pain (Revelation 21:1-8).
THE BIBLE
The Bible is the inspired word of God, and its original manuscripts are free from error. It is our final authority in all matters of faith and life. The Bible provides us with all that is necessary to understand and cultivate a right relationship with God and one another. As the foundational source of our core beliefs, the Bible shapes our understanding of faith and conduct (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
